I made this project out of my personal respect for The Truman Show (1998, Peter Weir), a significant film in cinema history, for its thought-provoking concept and inspirational storytelling.
The absence of an opening sequence in the film presented me with an opportunity to independently find out the best way to capture the essence and set the tone for the audience. I opted for a nostalgic and minimalist art direction out of the inspiration from the works of Saul Bass. In the meantime, I think it well suits the vibe of the famous music piece “Truman Sleeps” by Philip Glass in the film’s OST.

After carefully reviewing the film multiple times, I identified a series of scenes that, in my opinion, the filmmaker nudges the audience to pay attention to. I then extracted critical visual elements from those scenes and focused on creating seamless transitions in between. My intention was to provide subtle hints to the audience, offering glimpses without revealing concrete details or spoiling any surprises. I hope this sequence could help to give the audience a satisfying experience when they discover the corresponding moments in the film and realize their importance in storytelling.
